Affinitiv 2020 National Consumer Report

Navigate the automotive market through key and developing trends

As part of our annual consumer survey, we gathered data from over 1,500 consumers who either purchased a vehicle from a dealership within the last 12 months or serviced their vehicle in the last 12 months.

Some key highlights from this report include:

  • Online vehicle purchase adoption remains low.
Less than a quarter of consumers are aware if their dealership offers an online, touchless option to purchase a vehicle, and less than 19% of consumers completed at least part of their vehicle purchase online.
  • Younger consumers are more likely to use touchless service.
53% of younger consumers would use a touchless service option if it were available compared to 26% of consumers older than 50.
  • Nearly 1/4 of all searches now start with Amazon.
While Google is still the frontrunner for online search, there is a trending movement towards starting searches with Amazon. Younger audiences are also starting to show higher interest in using Amazon to shop for vehicles.
